Lupita Nyong’o £97k Oscar dress reported stolen
Lupita played 'Patsey' in 12 Years A Slave
A pearl-encrusted dress worth £97,000, worn by actress Lupita Nyong’o at this year’s Oscars, has been stolen in Hollywood.
The Academy Award-winning actress, who gained fame for her role in ’12 Years A Slave’, was a presenter at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony.
Investigators in LA have been analysing security footage at the West Hollywood hotel where she was staying, however no arrests have been made.
The theft is alleged to have taken place while she was out of the room.
The custom-made dress designed by Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, boasts 6,000 natural white pearls and took 25 people 10 weeks to put together.
On the red carpet at this year’s Oscars, the Kenyan actress told AP she was “just wearing my diamonds and pearls. My homage to (musician) Prince.”
Speaking about the design of the dress, she said: “We talked about it being fluid and liquid. I wanted it to be an homage to the sea."
Lupita will star in the highly-anticipated new Star Wars: Episode VII movie, set to be released on 18th December 2015.
