Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh has shared a heartbreaking tribute to her late son Archie, on the ninth anniversary of his tragic death.

Kym went into premature labour with Archie at just over 21 weeks pregnant. Despite their best efforts, doctors were unable to stop the labour and Archie tragically passed away just minutes after being born.

Paying tribute to her late son in a touching Instagram post, Kym shared a photo which included his hands and footprints in a frame.

Admitting how much she misses him, Kym wrote, '9 years ago today our lives changed forever. Our hearts will never heal and our tears will always fall because we miss you so much. I am so proud to have been your mummy. I wish we were having a party today with balloons and presents. I wish I had got to see your smile and hold your hand. I wish I could kiss your face and hug you tightly. I wish I had heard your voice. I wish I had been able to pick you up when you had fallen, put plasters on your knees, dry your tears. I wish I wish I wish you were here. You are always in our hearts my beautiful boy. Happy birthday. We miss you and love you so very much. Have fun up there today little one Mummy loves you 💙'. sic

Fans and friends of the actress were quick to send their messages of support. One user wrote, 'Happy birthday little one. Thinking of u all💙', with another adding, 'Beautiful words...xx 💕'.

Real Housewives Of Cheshire star Leanne Brown also wrote, 'Thinking of u hope last night was a huge success for you 🙏🏽❤️'. sic

Over the weekend, Kym held a charity ball in memory of Archie in order to raise money for charity, Saying Goodbye UK. The sold-out event was attended by a number of famous faces, including Kym's fellow Coronation Street cast mates, and stars from the world of TV and entertainment.

Thanking everybody for making it a successful event, Kym took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to write, 'Well what a night that was!!! I’m truly thankful to everyone who came, supported, donated, tweeted, whatever you did I am grateful for! We had such an amazing time and have raised a lot of money for the wonderful @SayingGoodbyeUK I’m truly truly humbled by the kindness 💙💗'. sic

Kym welcomed Archie in February 2009 with her ex, former Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas.

After tragically losing him just a few moments after the birth, Kym has vowed to keep his memory alive, and recently told Lorraine Kelly, "We celebrate his birthday every year. Send balloons up at New Year's and Christmas for him. He's a huge part of our family.

"We've always wanted to do something in his memory to help other people. After doing the storyline last year I finally got the bit between my teeth and thought 'what can we do?"

Despite Kym's heartbreak, the actress bravely took on a similar storyline for her role in Coronation Street last year, which saw her character Michelle lose her son at 23 weeks.
