Katy Perry denies '1984' is Taylor Swift revenge song
Her representatives release a statement
Katy Perry’s representatives have categorically denied that her new song ‘1984’ is a swipe at her alleged arch nemesis Taylor Swift.
When news of the track emerged this week, it was speculated that the track alluded to the title of Taylor’s album ‘1989’ and was a direct retaliation to her track ‘Bad Blood’, which is about a bitter fallout with an undisclosed rival female pop star – very possibly Katy Perry.
Shutting down the rumours, Katy’s reps have called the story “completely false.”
"Katy Perry’s managers at Direct Management Group confirm that this story is completely false," a Universal spokesperson told Billboard. "Katy Perry was not involved in writing, singing, recording or registering this song."
Adding even more gravitas to the statement, Katy retweeted the Billboard exclusive article to her 70million Twitter followers.
Last year Taylor Swift revealed that ‘Bad Blood’ was inspired by her relationship with a rival female pop star she is “straight-up enemies” with.
“She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour,” Taylor explained. “She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”
Although Taylor didn’t name names, Katy seemed to out herself as Taylor’s rival when she tweeted shortly after the interview: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…”
The tweet alluded to the jealous, phony and spiteful character in 2004 movie Mean Girls who is all sickly sweet on the outside.
In other Katy Perry news, ‘Dark Horse’ became the third track in history to surpass the 1billion YouTube views barrier in history this week.
Only Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ and PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ have been viewed more.
