Formula One racer Jenson Button and his wife Jessica were knocked out with drugs while robbers broke into their holiday home and stole her £250,000 engagement ring.

They were in the South of France with friends in a rented holiday villa and it is believed that they were gassed as they slept by burglars. Local police believe an anaesthetic gas was pumped into the Villa through the air conditioning vent before stealing over £300,000 worth of possessions.

Jessica’s was pictured on Instagram wearing her five-carat engagement ring only a few days ago.

A spokesperson for Jenson said: “Jenson, Jessica and friends were on holiday in a rented villa. Two men broke into the property whilst they all slept and stole a number of items of jewellery including, most upsettingly, Jessica’s engagement ring."

“The police have indicated that this has become a growing problem in the region with perpetrators going so far as to gas their proposed victims through the air conditioning units before breaking in. Everyone involved is unsurprisingly shaken by the events.”
