Gemma Atkinson sparks Strictly Come Dancing relationship rumours
Could love be in the air?
Last updated 14th Aug 2018
Gemma Atkinson has been training hard for this year's Strictly Come Dancing with professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec, but could a relationship be forming between Gemma and another Strictly Come Dancing professional?
Speaking on Key 103's breakfast show Gemma was talking about learning a new skill when she admitted she would love to learn another language, but doesn't have the time. It was then that Matt said, "but you've got Gorka haven't you?" before quickly realising that maybe he shouldn't have said that.
Matt was referring to Spanish dancer Gorka Márquez, who is also a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, however Gorka has been paired with pop star Alexandra Burke, while Gemma is with Aljaz. Recently there have been rumours that Gemma and Gorka have been getting close, so could there be something in the rumours?
As the presenters fell around laughing, Mike chipped in, "Oh, something just happened here, can we all just forget that sentence happened?!"
However, we have the audio and if you missed it this morning, then you can listen to it in full below.
During their first week of training Aljaz joined Gemma on Key 103 where he was asked whether he thought chemistry was important with a dance partner. Aljaz said although it was important he really enjoyed teaching someone who didn't have any previous experience, which is lucky because Gemma admitted she had never done anything like this before.
Gemma has been training hard for Strictly Come Dancing since she was paired up with Aljaz and last week told of how she was finding the pressure of learning the dance steps so hard admitting she was "so nervous" saying, "I had my first wobble yesterday in training. Literally. I nearly cried on the way home."
The 32-year-old has been training for eight hours a day after her show and admits that it's taking its toll on her. Last week she had to see a physiotherapist because she wasn't used to wearing heals for so long and all the dancing had resulted in her foot looking like a trotter!
Matt and Mike have been making fun of Gemma's feet for some time, even before she started training for Strictly Come Dancing. Gemma's co-hosts have nicknamed her toes, 'finger-toes', as they say they are unusually long and after a few days of training they were already looking a bit worse for wear with bruises and plasters.
Gemma wasn't the only person to be nervous about the first performance as celebrity chef Simon Rimmer joined Gemma last week saying he was "terrified". However his dance partner Karen encouraged him saying he's "doing good", although she admitted he needed to work on his flexibility.
Simon and Gemma have both been hard at work training and have become good friends, encouraging each other, with Simon even describing Gemma's dancing as "brilliant".
Like Gemma, Simon has never done ballroom dancing before, so he doesn't think he is doing too badly for a 54-year-old, but he said he was very nervous about the live TV show.
Last week on the Key 103 breakfast show Simon and Gemma took part in a 'dance off' which resulted in the pair attempting to show off some of the moves they have learnt. Although it started out promising it ended up with some fist pumping and 'mum and dad' dancing, with Simon describing it as "the world's worst boy and girl band"!
Despite the problems during training, Gemma did well at the weekend when she performed a Cha Cha to Shawn Mendes' 'There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back'. She ended up with a respectable score of 20 points, whilst former JLS singer Aston Merrygold and his dance partner Janette ended in first place with 31 points. Simon ended just behind Gemma with 17 points.
