He calls for an end to abuse

As part of his work with charity UNICEF, David Beckham has visited children in Cambodia who have endured physical, sexual and emotional abuse.

The 40-year-old former footballer has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF for a decade and earlier this year launched 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund to protect vulnerable children.

Unicef released a series of images yesterday of David’s visit to Siem Reap showing him join a lesson, where one young boy takes an interest in his tattoos.

Other images show him helping children do washing, learning the local customs and smiling with a schoolboy.

David told his 7.2million Instagram followers: “I am here in Cambodia to meet children who have experienced violence, hear their stories and see what UNICEF and its partners are doing to keep these children safe.

“It is shocking that every five minutes a child dies because of violence somewhere in the world. This has to stop.”

In another post, he wrote: “Today's amazing visit with @unicef to meet children affected by violence. Violence against any child is unacceptable. Children should never be in danger...great to see @unicef work & the smiles on these children's faces...”

At the launch of 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund back in February, David highlighted the importance of his charity work.

"My fame, my success on the field, opens doors for exactly things like this - the protection of children,” he explained.

"Even before I had children it meant a lot to me. It changes people's lives across the world. When people say what's the greatest thing about being David Beckham? It's this. It's helping children around the world."

David’s other charity work includes Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS, the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Malaria No More UK.
