Shawshank Redemption has been named Britain's favourite film in poll by YouGov. The poll asked 1,691 Britons to choose films they enjoyed and select their favourite. The top 15 list and their scores has been revealed...

1. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 10.8 An inspirational, yet hard hitting prison drama starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.

2. Star Wars (1977) 9.9 The film launched one of the most successful Sci-Fi franchises and episode 7 is set to be released this year.

3. Dirty Dancing (1987) 8.1 The film had a hit soundtrack and showcased a now inconic dance move when Patrick Swayze lifts Jennifer Grey above his head.

4. Forrest Gump (1994) 7.9 Starring Tom Hanks as a slow-witted but good-natured man, "Run Forest Run" and "Life is like a box of chocolates" are just two of the iconic phrases from this hit film.

5. The Green Mile (1999) 7.7 Another film starring Tom Hanks, this film tells the story of a death row corrections officer during the Great Depression in the United States, and the supernatural events he witnessed.

6. The Sound of Music (1965) 6.7 The film stars Julie Andrews as an Austrian woman studying to become a nun who is sent to the villa of a retired naval officer and widower. As governess to his seven children she brings music and love into their lives.

7. Pretty Woman (1990) 6.6 Starring Julia Roberts as a down-on-her-luck Hollywood sex worker who is hired by Edward Lewis, played by Richard Gere, to be his escort for several business and social functions. This is regarded as one of the most romantic films of the 90's.

8. The Great Escape (1963) 6.5 Starring Steve McQueen, James Garner and Richard Attenborough, this American World War II epic film is based on an escape by British and Commonwealth prisoners of war from a German POW camp during World War II.

9. Pulp Fiction (1994) 6.0 Famous for its ironic mix of humour, violence and pop culture references, this Quentin Tarantino film was nominated for seven Oscars.

10. The Godfather (1972) 5.3 The film was for a time the highest grossing picture ever made, remains the box office leader for 1972 and won three Oscars.
