"Why not Hull?" Boss of Music Venue Trust praises local Coldplay dates
The global superstars have announced two dates at Craven Park
The boss of the Music Venue Trust have praised Coldplay for announcing two nights at Craven Park in Hull, one of their only tour dates in the UK and Europe in 2025.
Coldplay will be bringing their Music Of The Spheres World Tour to East Yorkshire on the 18th and 19th August 2025.
Music Venue Trust is also set to benefit from the shows in Hull and London, with 10% of profits going towards the Trust, so they can support local grassroots music venues.
The MVT support the likes of The Adelphi, Welly, and Polar Bear in Hull already, with cash generated from the Coldplay dates set to provide a boost for the gig ecosystem.
Mark Davyd, CEO of the MVT tells us "Well, we've we've been saying for some time that these arena and stadium events are fantastic. They're really important, but they need to show that they're part of the music ecosystem, that when a band like Coldplay gets to the point where they can play all of these stadium shows, there should be some kind of finances going back into the small venues"
"These are the places that Coldplay came through. You know, they played three tours of this size of venue when they were building their careers."
Although its not clear exactly why Coldplay selected Hull over other locations, Mark tells us there's no reason why Hull should be a contender.
"I don't know why Hull, but I think I'll inverse the question why not Hull?"
"I I think the concept that that this type of show only belongs in London or Manchester or Glasgow or Cardiff, I don't agree with"
I'd like to see shows like this all across the country".
50% of tickets for the Craven Park dates will be reserved for people with a local HU, YO, DN or LN postcode, to maximise chances of local people being able to attend.
Tickets go on sale on the 27th September.
