Hull Trains drivers walk out in row over "unfair dismissal" of colleague
The walk outs will affect services on weekends in March and April
Passengers with Hull Trains can expect some level of disruption on weekends in March and April, as drivers with the ASLEF union walk out.
The union said a driver was sacked after raising a safety concern about fatigue – a claim Hull Trains denies.
Previously, Mick Whelan, the General Secretary of the Union said railway staff should be able to report a safety concern "without fearing they will be penalised, punished, or lose their livelihood".
"The company's failure to act responsibly has impacts not just for rail workers and passengers at Hull Trains but right across the wider rail industry," he said.
Nigel Roebuck, from ASLEF in East Yorkshire tells us "We've had one of our members who has lost his job, he's has been dismissed for for a comment he made during a safety brief.
"Unfortunately, it's not acceptable the way it's been done. We have processes and proceedings we go through to deal with such such issues. Hull Trains have decided to go down the the nuclear option. They've put a violation charge on this individual and sacked him".
Hull Trains say they're committed to finding a resolution, and add that disruption to passengers over affected weekends will be minimal.
