Officers chased down a robbery suspect in Nottingham before retrieving a machete from a bush.

The knife crime team were on patrol around St Ann’s when they were alerted to an incident nearby.

A group of young people reportedly threatened someone with a knife and tried to rob their e-scooter.

This took place in Robin Hood Chase and was reported to police around 3.10pm on Wednesday (4 September).

Knife crime team and Operational Support officers arrived at the scene minutes later and spotted a suspect fleeing from the area.

A foot chase then took place, which quickly resulted in officers catching up with and detaining a suspect in Church Street.

After retracing their steps, the policing teams also managed to find a machete that had been discarded in some bushes on the same street.

Following this discovery, a 13-year-old boy they’d detained was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possessing a knife in public.

Sergeant Matt Daley, of Nottinghamshire Police’s knife crime team, said: “Our team was in the process of conducting our usual patrols around the neighbourhood when this call came in.

“Thanks to our officers already being out and about in the community, we were able to arrive at the scene soon after and join our Operational Support colleagues.

“Between us, we were able to take immediate action and detain a suspect, following a short foot chase, before also retrieving a machete from a nearby bush.

“Our main goal as a knife crime team when we go out on shift is to try and take as many bladed weapons off the streets as possible.

“While this was very much a team effort, it was very pleasing to be able to play a role in taking this weapon out of harm’s way.

“Despite an arrest being made, inquiries are still very much ongoing into this incident, so we’d ask anyone who has any information to get in touch with the police.
