A Nottingham College went into lockdown after a report of an intruder on a nearby campus.

Parents and carers of children at Bilborough College will be hearing this afternoon how the site was locked down for around 40 minutes today.

We're told it happened after colleagues at Nottingham University Samworth Academy, made Bilborough College aware there was a report of an intruder.

The College is located just down the hill from the Academy.

The College said "we triggered our external lockdown procedures immediately as a precaution."

"We must commend students on the way that they went into lockdown processes which are familiar to them thanks to regular and recent drills."

"Our college is a safe and secure environment and so the lockdown is a highly effective response to such an incident. We are now continuing with the college day while remaining vigilant, as always, in terms of safety and security."

Police attended the scene, and thoroughly searched the buildings before they gave an all-clear order.

We've contacted the force for more information, while we await a response from the Academy.
