Leicester murder investigation launched after death of High Wycombe woman

A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, after officers found Tarnjeet Riaz, dead at an address in Tarbat Road on Monday

Detectives in Leicester are investigating the murder of a woman at a house in Thurnby Lodge.

The woman, who has been named as Tarnjeet Riaz from High Wycombe was found dead at an address in Tarbat Road on Monday 6 May.

She's also known by her maiden name Chagger,

Police were called to the address by the East Midlands Ambulance Service shortly before 1.30pm.

Their officers have revealed that it appeared Tarnjeet had been assaulted.

Officers attended the scene and a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in police custody.

Investigation

During the last few days specialist detectives have been working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and the movements of the victim in the hours leading up to her death.

It has also been established that Tarnjeet, who is 44, had sustained serious injuries to her face and chest.

Detective Inspector Emma Matts, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “An incident which has occurred inside that address on the morning of Monday 6 May has sadly led to Tarnjeet’s death.

“A team of detectives are continuing to work to understand what has occurred and a cordon will remain in place while we thoroughly examine the scene.

“We currently have a man arrested in connection with Tarnjeet’s death and he continues to be interviewed by police.

“Family liaison officers have also been deployed and they are supporting the victim’s family at this extremely difficult and distressing time."
