Leicester among areas to benefit from more money for buses
Just under 1-billion pounds will go to local authorities and bus operators nationwide
Leicester's among the areas set to benefit from more money for buses.
Transport Secretary Louise Haigh confirmed 712-million-pounds for local authorities to improve services as well as 243 million for operators.
The funding's mostly going to places ministers say have historically been underserved.
Areas set to benefit include Peterborough, the Isle of Wright, Cambridgeshire, Leicester and Torbay.
The South Yorkshire and Liverpool City regions will receive 17-million and 21-million respectively.
The government hopes it will protect popular routes, and help improve punctuality on the bus network.
Ministers also want to tackle a so-called 'postcode lottery' that leaves many small towns and rural areas with less services.
They're hoping to encourage more frequent bus travel for shopping, socialising and commuting.
