People in Weymouth are getting a chance to find out more about a Neighbourhood Plan for the town this week.

The Town Council's hosting a series of local engagement events for residents to find out more and have a say.

A Neighbourhood Plan is a document which sets out things like where new housing developments could be built, which green spaces should be protected and where employment land could be created.

Drop-in events are being held at four different location this week - each between 3.30pm to 6.30pm:

  • Monday 21st August at The Waverley Community Centre, 121 Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth, DT4 0JX
  • Wednesday 23rd August at Redlands Community Sports Hub, Dorchester Road, Weymouth, DT3 5AW
  • Thursday 24th August at the Wellworthy Sports & Social Club, Dumbarton Road, Wyke Regis, Weymouth, DT4 9BY
  • Friday 25th August at Preston Village Hall, Preston Road, Preston, Weymouth DT3 6BH

There'll also be a public meeting on Tuesday 29th August at Weymouth Town Council’s Council Chamber, The New Town Hall, Commercial Road, DT4 8NG, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Cllr David Northam, Chair of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, said:

“The people who live here feel strongly about our town and we want to ensure Weymouth develops with all our needs in mind. We need to be a resilient coastal community with homes and infrastructure for everyone. That’s why it’s important that residents take every opportunity to get involved in shaping a Neighbourhood Plan for the town.

“We want to put planning back into people’s control by having a robust plan that guides developers on where new homes should be built for local people while balancing the conservation of local green spaces that people have told us are so important. So, come to one of our events and find out more about what’s involved before the draft plan moves to the next stage; a formal public consultation in October.”
