Two weeks of renovation works are due to begin at Weymouth Crematorium's Garden of Remembrance from today (Monday 18th September).

Dorset Council will be on site making changes to improve safety, accessibility and drainage, as well as maintaining the plants in the garden itself.

It does mean the area will be surrounded by barriers, with no access to the public while the work's carried out.

There may be some machinery on-site at times, but contractors will aim to keep noise to a minimum.

Anyone who has a rose in the garden is being contacted directly, if their memorial is affected.

Cllr Laura Beddow, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture and Communities, said:

“Obviously there’s never a perfect time to carry out these kinds of works in such a sensitive area, so we’re doing all we can to ensure visitors are given advance notice and aren’t disturbed by these important enhancements.

“Please bear with us whilst this work takes place. We are working hard to ensure that we are continuing to create a beautiful, peaceful sanctuary for all our visitors, and we hope that everyone will be able to enjoy our gardens for many years to come.”
