Two consultations planned on Weymouth facilities

We'll be asked our views on cemeteries and Littlemoor skate park

Two public consultations are being planned in Weymouth to ask our views on the town's cemeteries - and plans to revamp Littlemoor's skate park.

The Town Council wants to know what we think about a policy to leave designated areas within Weymouth's three cemeteries to grow wild.

They're currently left alone and only cut by the maintenance team once or twice a year, to provide a more natural space for pollinators like bees and buterflies.

But following feedback around grass cutting and maintenance, councillors have decided to hold a consultation with residents.

There's also due to be a public survey on how Littlemoor's skate park should be revamped, after costings were discussed by the Town Council.

Cllr Matt Bell, Chair of Environment and Services Committee, said:

“We have been listening to the feedback about our services and we will shortly be running two consultations for people to feed their views in to.

"So, whether you use the skatepark in Littlemoor and you want to give us your views on it, or you want to let us know about whether we should or shouldn’t keep some areas of our cemeteries more natural to support wildlife, you will soon be able to have your say. Look out for the consultations which Weymouth Town Council will publicise in due course.”

A Town Council meeting this week also decided that the ten water refill taps along the seafront should be replaced and improved.

They'll also consider replacing another three elsewhere in Weymouth.

A new event called Weymouth Water Fest has also been agreed to take place in the autumn.

The authority's set to work with local groups, including sea swimming organisations, to put on the event near the Pavilion end of the beach.

The aim is to encourage residents to be more confident with swimming in the sea, try out other activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding, and discover how these activities can help boost mental health.
