A West Dorset primary school is set for a new, modern building - upgrading facilities for pupils and staff.

Cheselbourne Village School near Dorchester has had planning permission granted for a new block containing classrooms and toilets.

Headteacher Chris Perry said:

“The construction of a new modern building at our school represents a significant step towards enhancing the education of our children. The improvements of important factors, such as toilet facilities, and the expansion in size offer a multitude of benefits.

“The increased space in the new building provides opportunities for improved learning environments. With more room for pupils to learn in a busy and purposeful way, and improvement to our resources, our educators can use innovative teaching methods and provide a more rounded education for our children. The new building will foster collaborative learning, extracurricular activities, and a sense of improved wellbeing among pupils and staff. The construction of a new building is a vital investment in our children's education, setting the stage for a brighter future.”

The project's had the backing of West Dorset MP, Chris Loder. He said:

“When I visited Cheselbourne Village School last year, it was clear that staff and pupils needed additional space for learning. I immediately pledged my support to help the School achieve its goal, and I am glad that not even a year later, the building application has been approved and construction work will begin soon.”
