Man jailed for child sex offences in Weymouth and Portland
Crimes by 60 year old Glyn Robert Phelps date back to the 1980s
A man who sexually abused two girls in the Weymouth and Portland area has been jailed for 15 years.
60 year old Glyn Robert Phelps, of Preston Road in Yeovil, has been sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court, having previously been found guilty of ten charges of indecent assault of a girl under 14 and five offences of gross indecency of a girl under 14.
All the crimes date back to the 1980s.
The first victim came forward to report incidents to police in July 2020, and as part of the police investigation into the case, an allegation involving the second victim was disclosed.
Detective Constable George Boast, of the Child Abuse Investigation Team, said:
“For these victims to come forward and report these offences to police has taken immense bravery on their part and they have also shown strength and courage to support the subsequent investigation and court process.
“I hope this will inspire other victims of sexual offences, including non recent sexual abuse, to come forward and report matters in the knowledge that they will be supported and we will take action.
“Glyn Phelps subjected two girls to horrific abuse at a young age and we have now been able to seek justice for these victims and hold him to account for his offending behaviour.”
