Bournemouth man charged after assault left victim critically ill

A man has been charged after an assault in Poole which left the victim in a critical condition in hospital.

Shortly before 6pm on Tuesday 10 January the victim, a man aged in his 50s, was entering the Foundry Arms in Lagland Street when he reportedly became involved in a verbal altercation with a group of people who were leaving the premises, before one of them returned and assaulted him, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

The victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition for treatment to a serious head injury, but has since been discharged.

Following enquiries by detectives from Bournemouth CID, a 20-year-old man was arrested and has subsequently been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday 4 August.
