A new charity shop that's opened in Sherborne has been drafted in a renowned journalist to do the honours at their official opening.

Kate Adie cut the ribbon at a new store that raises money for the Dogs Trust.

The shop's been set up on South Street, and it's their first new store opening since the Covid pandemic.

It's also become Dorset's second branch for the Dogs Trust, with the other in Poole.

The charity's 34 shops in England and Wales have raised just under £3 million so far this year, towards care and support for dogs that come into their rehoming centres.

Carole Carlton Smith, Head of Retail at Dogs Trust said:

“We are very excited to have opened a shop here in Sherborne as it’s such a beautiful town with a busy high street, bustling markets and a lovely local community of dog lovers. We would be so grateful for any donations of clothing, accessories or bric-a-brac. We are also looking for volunteers to join our lovely little team.”

As well as the store also reselling donations to encourage sustainable shopping, the charity's also kitted out the Sherborne branch with recycled materials where possible.

Previously used shop furniture including the till point, gondolas, shelves and jewellery cabinet have been reused and energy saving LED lighting installed.

The store will be open Monday to Saturday between 9.00am and 5.00pm.

The team's looking for donations of pre-loved items of clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac and welcome items being dropped off any time during opening hours.

Anyone interested in volunteering in the shop can go in to the branch for further details.
