A 760 home housing development near Bridport has officially started being constructed, with a groundbreaking ceremony being held.

The Foundry Lea plans for Vearse Farm will also include a primary school, employment space, retail units, community facilities and an accessible open space.

The ceremony to begin the work brought together the developers with Symondsbury Parish Council.

The first spades have gone in the ground for the Foundry Lea development near Bridport

Foundations of the first properties there are due to be completed by Autumn 2024.

The first families will be moving into their new homes by Summer 2025.

Andrew Spicer, Managing Director at Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, said:

“We’re thrilled to have broken ground at Foundry Lea with key members of the community. This project represents our commitment to delivering high-quality homes in Dorset and creating vibrant places that enhance the local area.”

Peter Sadler, Managing Director at Vistry Cornwall South West, said:

“By building hundreds of sustainable, thoughtfully designed new homes that meet the needs of local people, we look forward to contributing positively to the Bridport community and working with local councillors for years to come."

It's expected the first families will move into Foundry Lea by summer 2025

The Foundry Lea consortium will be the main sponsor of this year's Bridport Community Charter Fair and will be hosting a ‘Meet the Builder’ stall at the event on Saturday 18th May.

That's a chance for local people to find out more about the homes being built there and the construction jobs available on site.
