Major flood risk report for Weymouth to be published this month
That's five months later than expected
A key flood risk assessment report for Weymouth town centre is expected to be published by the end of February – five months later than expected.
Dorset councillors were told that the Level 2 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment for Weymouth was expected to have been made public in September, following consultations between Dorset Council and Weymouth Town Council.
Planning portfolio holder Cllr David Walsh told this month’s council meeting that officers had been talking to the Environment Agency about their advice to be issued to Dorset Council as a result of the assessment.
He said that officers from both Strategic Planning and Flood and Coastal Erosion Teams have been working with consultants to prepare the Weymouth town centre document.
Cllr Walsh said:
“An important element of the SFRA is for the Environment Agency to update their advice to Dorset Council to reflect the findings of the SFRA.
"This process is now drawing to an end and will enable the SFRA to be published later in February 2024.”
