A Dorchester pharmacy could become one of the first in the area to install a 24-hour prescription ‘robot’.

The Victoria Park pharmacy in Maud Road is asking Dorset Council if they can replace one of their front windows with the machine, allowing customers to collect their prescriptions day and night.

An extension to the rear of the premises is also being requested to allow for more room to prepare medicines and to add to the existing consultation space, to be achieved by demolishing an existing garage and hard standing.

The front window would be altered at the pharmacy to allow for the dispensary machine, if plans are approved

The pharmacy, which has been at the site for over thirty years, says its annual prescription numbers have more than doubled in the last two years, with it also offering healthcare services from its consulting room which, it admits, is cramped.

The extension, as well as adding to consultation space and for preparing prescriptions, will also give extrs space for staff facilities.

Public comments on the application remain open until February 19th.
