A Bournemouth man's been jailed for nine years for deliberately driving into two men in Weymouth, leaving one of them with serious injuries.
25 year old Leon Fowler also failed to stop at the scene in July.
He admitted driving a motor vehicle dangerously, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, attempted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report a road accident and has been sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court yesterday (Monday 28th October).
As well as the prison term, Fowler's been disqualified from driving for six and a half years, and made the subject of a restraining order, preventing him contacting the victims for ten years.
What happened?
Fowler was driving a black VW Golf on Abbotsbury Road on July 16th, when he drove intentionally towards two men on the pavement.
The vehicle was then left a short distance away, and he left the scene on foot.
One man in his 20s, struck by the car and known to Fowler, suffered serious facial injuries that needed reconstructive surgery, and an injury to his arm.
The other man sustained facial and head injuries that weren't serious.
Fowler was arrested the following day.
A 59-year-old man, who was also arrested in connection with the incident, was later released without charge.
Detective Constable Donna Taylor, of Dorset County CID, said:
“Leon Fowler effectively used his vehicle as a weapon, intentionally driving into his victims, leaving one of them with very serious injuries. His reckless actions could easily have had fatal consequences.
“We responded swiftly to the incident and through detailed enquiries were able to identify Fowler as the offender and apprehend him.
“Detectives have since been compiling evidence to put before the court to ensure he is held accountable for his extremely dangerous actions.”
