Man banned from entering number of Workington shops

A man has been banned from a number of shops in Workington after shoplifting on two occasions.

39 year old John Burgess, of no fixed address pleaded guilty to two offences of shoplifting from 6 and 10 June 2024.

A Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) on July 2 at West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court was secured against him

Anyone who witnesses him breaching the terms of his CBO should contact the police.

A police spokesperson said: “This Criminal Behaviour Order will prevent Burgess from further criminality and help protect business owners and local residents.

“I would encourage anyone who witnesses the terms of such a court order being broken to contact the police immediately. The punishment for breaking the terms of a CBO can be up to five years in prison.”
