As the festive season approaches, Coventry BID is taking a proactive approach to ensure people’s personal safety.

Stuart Granger is the Security Manager at Coventry BID, he has been telling us more about the initiative: “We’re supporting businesses and the people of Coventry.

“The safety items we are handing out today will protect the community from theft and fraud.”

Coventry BID have invested in over 12,000 safety items that are free for shoppers in the city centre.

The free crime prevention tools include credit card defenders, purse cables and purse dipping bells.

These items are specifically designed to deter pickpockets and reduce the risk of card fraud.

The new campaign by Coventry BID comes at a crucial time as Coventry can expect to see an increase in foot traffic ahead of Christmas.

Stuart hopes the new campaign will keep crime at a steady level in the city centre.

Stuart said: “There has been lots of partnership between police forces and the BID, which has cut down reports of theft.

“It’s all about partnership work and especially protecting independent businesses, to do this we have increased our street patrol during late night shopping hours.”
