Strong winds to batter South West on New Years Day
It comes amid New Years Eve celebrations in the north of the country being called off
If you're hoping to head out anywhere across the South West tomorrow, for New Year's Day, the message from forecasters is to brace for the bad weather.
Almost every part of the country is covered by at least one of the multiple Met Office weather warnings between Monday and Wednesday, with stormy conditions are expected to hamper many New Year's Eve celebrations tonight - including in Edinburgh and Blackpool.
On Wednesday, the entire South West is being plunged under a yellow alert for wind - between 7AM and midnight.
Those at the Met Office say there is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected - and also a slight chance of localised power cuts, too.
Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said: "It will be a tricky couple of days and a wet and windy spell for many up into the new year.
"We're encouraging anyone who is planning to travel to keep up to date with the weather forecast and news from their local authorities."
The new year will be off to a turbulent start with separate weather warnings in place for wind and rain on January 1.
Forecasters also predict winds of up to 60mph are forecast across much of England and Wales all day on Wednesday, with gusts of 75mph likely around coastal areas and hills.
