Organisers of the Royal Cornwall Show say there won't be any closures of the A30 during the event, which starts on Thursday.

There were concerns the ongoing works could affect traffic heading to and from the show, which attracts thousands of people every year.

But organisers say they've been told the planned closures are now no longer in force - but they're still advising visitors to allow plenty of time for their journeys.

Secretary of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, Chris Riddle commented ‘We are very happy to hear that in this instance common sense has prevailed, and disruption to traffic heading to the Show during the day will be mitigated.

"We still advise that anyone visiting the Show this week gives themselves plenty of time for their journey, and have a wonderful time while they are here’

Meanwhile, Devon & Cornwall police are encouraging those attending the show to pre-plan their journeys home and nominate a designated, sober driver before attending.

The plea comes in a bid to ensure local road networks are kept safe and free from drink drivers.

Inspector Adam Stonehill said: “We will be increasing patrols of local roads to deter drink driving, which we take a zero-tolerance approach to.

"Our message is, do not drive home if you have had a drink as you risk your life and the lives of others.

"Road safety officers will be patrolling the local road network, and anyone found to be drink driving will face prosecution which could result in a driving ban.”

Police teams from Bodmin and Wadebridge will be carrying outhigh visibility patrols at the event, and in the surrounding areas afterthe show ends.

The police are asking people to be respectful of others attending the show and warn that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

The Royal Cornwall Show takes place at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre near Wadebridge on the 6th, 7th and 8th of June.
