A huge fire on moorland near St Columb is being treated as arson.

An area measuring more than a thousand metres was affected at Rosenannon Downs overnight.

Fire crews were called out just after 7.30pm - before the blaze was finally put out more than three hours later.

In a statement, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Seven appliances and four land rovers attended a fire at Rosenannon Downs, St Columb, which was reported to us at 7.32pm on Thursday, 20 March. At its height the fire had a front of over 1,000 metres, and was allowed to burn into natural breaks.

"The fire was conformed as extinguished at 11.04pm, with all crews returning to their stations."
