Grey seal pup released back into wild by Cornish Seal Sanctuary
Leaf Cutter needed round-the-clock care after being found injured
The Cornish Seal Sanctuary has released a grey seal pup back into the wild, following life-saving care.
The little one, named Leaf Cutter, was rescued earlier this year - severely malnourished and with a serious injury.
She needed surgery to a damaged flipper, and months of rehab, which has been funded by public donations to the charity.
Tamara Cooper, Curator at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, said they're delighted to see her go back home:
“We are absolutely thrilled to see Leaf Cutter return to her natural habitat alongside four other rehabilitated pups.
“Her journey has been a testament to the power of community support and the vital role our sanctuary plays in giving these animals a second chance. We are so grateful to the amazing team at RoseVean Veterinary Practice who played a huge part in Leaf Cutter’s successful rehabilitation and subsequent release.”
A GPS tracker has been fitted to Leaf Cutter before her release, so supporters will now have the unique opportunity to track her progress as she explores the seas.
The Cornish Seal Sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates, and releases vulnerable seal pups along the Cornish coastline.
They rely on visitors and donations to fund the running of the sanctuary and core mission to help animals that need it.
