Bridgwater Carnival will this weekend feature a World Record squibbing attempt and a walking parade - but organisers say there'll be no carnival carts.

For a second year the famous carts, which usually attract people from the around the world, will only be on display in a live internet stream celebrating the best entries from the past 40 years.

Last year's 'Best Of The Best' live stream raised £10,000 for the carnival and it's hoped this year's 'Through The Decades ” will do just as well.

Saturday's two-hour live stream starts at 7pm and will include 100 entries - with some pubs expected to show the video.

There'll be a firework display at St Matthew's Field on Friday night from 7.30pm, before town centre activities on Saturday from 2.30pm followed by a walking costume parade from 5.30pm.

After the walking costume parade there'll be a 'simultaneous squibbing display' in the High Street - aiming to break the World Record by involving 250 people.

The carnival - before the pandemic - was worth an estimated £4 million to the local economy with an extra £2 million from carnival-related activities during the year.
