The West of England Metro Mayor has been invited to the Coronation of King Charles III.

Dan Norris says he will be there to represent the people of the West of England during tomorrow's Coronation (May 6) after he received and accepted an invitation to attend the big event.

Speaking ahead of the event Mr Norris said: “Tomorrow I’ll be representing the million fantastic people of the West of England at the Coronation in London’s Westminster Abbey. This very rare event is a real moment in the history of our country.”

Thousands of local people are expected to attend a series of local and regional celebratory events over the bank holiday weekend, including the 'Big Screens' at Bristol Cathedral and the Bristol and Bath Science Park, which were made possible thanks to a £45,000 grant from the Government.

Among the other public events taking place in Bath and North East Somerset are the Batheaston Coronation Street Party at Riverside Park and Keynsham Picnic in the Park at Keynsham Memorial Park on Sunday, while Bath Abbey have a host of events planned for the weekend like their patriotic printing craft activity for Bathonians young and old to enjoy on the Monday.

Locals can join in natural crown-making workshops over the weekend at Wild Place Project while Bristolians can enjoy a free exhibition looking back at different coronations over the years at All Saints Church in Clifton.

Plus there are street parties planned at Kingston Road and elsewhere across the city - and region - on the Saturday and Sunday.
