A man has been arrested after a crash in Bath that left a car wedged between the road and the basement area of a hotel.

It happened yesterday afternoon at around 4:45pm outside the Francis Hotel in Queen Square.

Photos of the dramatic scene drew significant attention on social media.

Avon and Somerset Police say a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of "driving while unfit through drink".

"One of the occupants of the car, a Kia Picanto, was rescued by a crew from Avon Fire & Rescue Service, while a second occupant had got out of the car by the time emergency services arrived," a statement from the police reads.
