Longleat is set for a 'splendiferous' event as its Festival of Light returns with a theme focused on children's author Roald Dahl.

'The Wondrous Worlds of Roald Dahl' is the biggest and most ambition festival to date with more than 800 individual lanterns set over 30 acres at the Wiltshire attraction.

A team of designers from Longleat have worked in partnership with The Roald Dahl Story Company to bring characters like Willy Wonka and the BFG to life.

Key moments from iconic books like Matilda, The Twits, George's Marvellous Medicine, and James and the Giant Peach are recreated too.

The Chocolate factory Charlie Bucket visits has been recreated and stands a whooping 25.5m tall, higher than Longleat House!

Whilst 30,000m of silk has been used across the lanterns, enough to wrap around the stately home 124 times.

Kevin Ashley, Longleat's Heat of Marketing Communication says it's great to be back

“After an absence of two years due to covid, we are delighted to be able to officially unveil the phizz-whizzing theme for The Festival of Light 2022.”

“Roald Dahl’s stories are part of everyone’s childhood and to have the opportunity to bring them to life here at Longleat is so exciting.

“Our team of designers has been hard at work transforming all the iconic characters into lantern form and creating what is certainly our most ambitious festival ever.

The Festival of Light runs until January 8th on selected dates.

Longleat’s famous 15-metre Enchanted Christmas Tree Show and the Santa Train are also back.
