UPDATE (26/10/24): National Highways said the road reopened in the early hours of Saturday morning (26 October) after emergency resurfacing works.

Motorists in Somerset using the M5 this evening are being warned of delays of up to 2 hours in both directions

A lorry fire between Burnham-on-Sea and Puriton earlier this afternoon meant the motorway closed between junctions 22 and 23.

The northbound carriageway has since reopened, but just 1 lane is open southbound.

A lane 1 and 2 closure has been installed southbound with traffic caught within the closure running past in lane 3.
