The MP for Bristol West is taking part in the Great Bristol Run this weekend to raise money - and awareness - for a local charity who work with people living with HIV.

Thangam Debbonaire will be taking to the city's streets in support of Brigstowe, saying they 'mean a lot' to her personally.

It's the MP's first time running in the Bristol 10k, after doing a solo version last year because of the pandemic.

She will now come together with former and current staff to highlight the work of the Easton-based charity:

"I love the way they (Brigstowe) work with people from many different walks of life. Their campaigns have done a lot to raise awareness of HIV and other long term health problems, helping people live healthy lives without stigma or discrimination.

"The staff and volunteers are an inspiring group of people and I’m proud we’re running to highlight and support what they do.

"This year it was particularly difficult to decide which charity to raise funds for. The last 18 months has been really tough on all charities as fundraising events came to a halt and charity shops were closed.

"I hope everyone will donate what they can to the many good causes people are supporting."
