Two beavers have been rescued over the weekend by a local animal charity.

The Secret World Wildlife Rescue received the call about the trapped animals which were found in a storm drain, filled with around a metres worth of dirty water.

One of the team picked them up and took them to the local RSPCA for treatment.

In a statement on Facebook, the Secret World Wildlife Rescue said: "It is not every day we get a phone call about an otter that turns out to be something very different!

"Yesterday we received a phone call about an animal trapped in Frome, the finder thought it might have been an otter. Upon arrival our Wildlife Carer Matt quickly realised that it was in fact not one but two beavers!

"The beavers were trapped in an overflow drain that was filled with around a metre’s worth of dirty water. It was important to get them out as quickly as possible as they were at risk of drowning if left in the storm drain.

"One of the beavers appeared much weaker than the other so it is likely it had been trapped in the drain for longer.

"After rescuing them, Matt drove the beavers to our friends at RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife who have had experience working with beavers in the past. Here, they spent the night and will be receiving some rehabilitation. We wish them the best of luck
