26 year old man dies after Great Bristol Run

A 26-year-old runner died after the Great Run Bristol event on Sunday.

The Great Run Company released a statement saying it was "with great sadness" it could confirm the man died after collapsing.

They announced:

"Everyone involved in the organisation of the Great Bristol Run would like to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the participant.

"In accordance with the wishes of the family no further details will be released. The cause of death will be determined later through medical examination.

"We take the health and safety of all participants very seriously and we work hard to ensure our events are delivered safely. All event plans are rigorously assessed and signed off by the Bristol Safety Advisory Group for Events (SAGE), and align with best practice in the UK."

The man's cause of death has yet to be determined.

The event on Sunday, started and finished in the city centre, featured a half marathon and a 10km run.

Organisers estimated more than 15,000 people participated.
