People in Weymouth are being thanked for their huge generosity in supporting victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Weymouth Rotary has now collected £3,000 for the disaster relief effort.

The efforts aren't over either, with further collections being held tomorrow and Friday (23rd and 24th February) at Morrison's supermarket in Weymouth; and on Saturday (25th February) in the town centre.

Weymouth Rotary President, David Langridge, said:

“Once again, the locals of the town have shown huge generosity in their donations and we wanted to provide more opportunities for people to give money in the coming days – either with spare cash or by contactless card – if they wish. We’re working with the wider Rotary International organisation to ensure that the monies raised go to immediate use.

“We’d like to thank Asda, Morrison’s and Camera Corner for their support and it’s inspiring to see businesses and individuals alike coming together to give what relief we can to the people affected by this awful tragedy."

The group's also worked with the Pilgrim House Trust to send out Shelterboxes and Water Survival Boxes, which help provide shelter, cooking equipment and clean water.

Anyone who can't make the collections but wants to support the effort can donate online via the Weymouth Rotary Club website, or by sending cheques, payable to ‘Weymouth Rotary Club’ to Pilgrim House, 1 Hope Street, Weymouth, DT4 8TU.

The group is not able to accept donations of clothing, bedding or food.
