Residents who live in the Park District of Weymouth have called a meeting to talk about their risk of being flooded.

The area is at high risk of flooding, but their drains are frequently blocked leaving them in a vulnerable position.

Both residents and representatives from Wessex Water, the Environment Agency, Dorset Highways, Magna Housing, the River Wey Society and local councillors have been invited to a public meeting.

That will be be at the Park Community Centre on Friday 7th October at 7pm.

It is hoped the agencies will put resident's minds at rest by explaining their role in flood prevention and setting out a clear plan to minimise the risk.

Miranda Tunnicliffe, co-organiser of this meeting, said:

"Our drains are frequently blocked and not serviced. We’ve been reporting them for a long time, there’s been one drain that’s been reported for about four years on the highways council system, and it’s still blocked.

"There are so many different agencies that are concerned with this that I thought if we got them all in the room they can’t point the finger at each other.

"I think we’re all worried in this area and particularly with being told by the council that it is an issue and being shown videos of houses being flooded and things like that, it’s scary.

"I just want to know that everything possible is being done to prevent it and I’m not sure that it is. I think this meeting will satisfy residents that things are being done."
