Three Weymouth GP surgeries plan to merge

Patients are being informed about the idea

Three GP surgeries in Weymouth are asking to merge.

Dorchester Road Practice, Royal Crescent and the Preston Road Practice want to come under one contract from April 2024.

They say they'll be able to offer more services to patients - and as a bigger organisation - they'll be a more attractive option when recruiting clinicians.

None of the practises are to close - and you'll still be able to see your own doctor or nurse.

Letters have been sent out to patients, informing them of the changes and answering some FAQs.

In that, Drs Wayne Knight and Chris Nelson say:

"Joining forces offers many benefits to patients and practices alike. As a bigger organisation we will be able to offer the combined skills within our GP and nursing teams to the patients of both practices, and will be more attractive to recruiting new clinicians, making us more sustainable.

"We will engage with patients over the coming months to ensure they are fully informed and have the opportunity to ask further questions or share views."
