The call is going out for as many people as possible to brave Weymouth Harbour's icy waters on Christmas Day.

It will be the first time since 2019 the charity fundraiser, organised by Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, has run without Covid restrictions.

Thousands of onlookers gather on Christmas morning to see people swim across the harbour.

Nearly 500 swimmers took part in 2019.

It's a 70 metre or so distance starts from the harbourside on Trinity Road, finishing across the water opposite the Harbour Master’s office on Custom House Quay.

The first race will be at 11.00am on Christmas morning.

Lion President Julie Storey said:

“I am pleased that this event can now revert to how we were in 2019 with no restrictions because the last two years have been frustrating for everyone. I want as many people as possible to come down to the harbourside and cheer on the swimmers and have a great time.”

Fewer people were able to take part last year, due to Covid restrictions

Lions Events Chairman Ryan Hope said:

“This year’s swim has been a pleasure to help organise. 480 swimmers were a record back in 2019 and the most we have had for some time, let's beat that this year!"
