Row over colour of Weymouth beach huts reaches grey ending
The huts on the Esplanade at Greenhill will be changed from blue
A set of beach huts on Weymouth seafront have been at the centre of a row over paint colours.
The fronts of the structures on the Esplanade at Greenhill were painted blue just before the 2012 Olympics, with Weymouth Town Council wanting that colour to remain.
They said it would 'align with the conservation zone as a whole'.
But campaigners have been calling for them to be repainted battleship grey, as it would be better for the metalwork on the huts and be more in keeping with the original 1923 paintwork.
The Greenhill Community Trust requested the change, claiming it would look better and last longer than the blue.
Trustee Tim Spooner told Dorset councillors it was important to use the right paint for the job because it offered the best protection, although it only comes in grey:
“The insistence on blue may add extra costs and make it difficult to maintain.
