Businesses vote YES to keeping We Are Weymouth BID
71% of levy payers voted the BID in for another 5 years
Weymouth will have a Business Improvement District for another 5 years.
71% of Weymouth levy payers voted We Are Weymouth (BID) in for the next 5 years.
The aim of the BID is to invest the money it receives into projects that will benefit businesses in the local area.
Chris Truscott, Chairman of We Are Weymouth (BID) said: “We are incredibly proud to announce today that We Are Weymouth (BID) has been overwhelmingly voted in for another term by businesses within the levy area of Weymouth.
"The BID’s sole purpose is to support the business district within Weymouth, and we’re privileged to have the opportunity to continue doing this. "
We Are Weymouth (BID) has 3 core areas to focus on when it comes to Weymouth’s business district:
- Improve Weymouth – Driving Standards to improve the public realm and enhance the look, feel and safety of the town through schemes such as shop wrapping, hanging baskets, bunting and Rangers.
- Marketing Weymouth - promoting Weymouth through campaigns and PR, financially supporting events and developing initiatives to increase footfall and spend throughout the town particularly ‘out-of-season’.
- Shaping Weymouth - providing a strong, unified voice, championing the interests of businesses in key decisions for the town
Some of the projects that have worked on include introducing the BID Rangers to help tackle retail crime in the town centre, to sponsoring artistic performances during the Inside Out festival.
Dawn Rondeau, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth (BID) said: “I’m overjoyed that the businesses in Weymouth have once again voted to invest in their town. The overwhelming success of We Are Weymouth (BID) all comes down to the businesses working with us on initiatives and we’re so happy to see such positive engagement from the town.
" Winning the next BID term gives us the time to work harder on improving the overall look and feel of the town, and to continue being the voice of our business community when it comes to working with government bodies. I can’t thank everyone enough, who voted for us, we’re honoured to be continuing.”
