An exploded wartime shell has been found washed up on a beach in Dorset.

Swanage Coastguard and the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team were called out to Middle Beach at Studland this morning.

A cordon was put in place to protect the public.

The shell was destroyed by a controlled explosion, and captured on a video which has been shared on the Swanage Coastguard's Facebook page:

A spokesperson for Swanage Coastguard said:

"We would like to thank the National Trust , local businesses and the public for their assistance whilst the beach was closed for safety."

The beach has now been fully reopened.
