A woman has been rescued from a flat fire in Bournemouth.

Crews from Redhill, Springbourne and Westbourne were called to Ripon Road just before 2.30am yesterday morning. (1 February)

They forced their way into the building and rescued a woman who was unconscious.

She has been taken to hospital.

Occupants of neighbouring properties were also treated at the scene.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said:

"Entry was made to other neighbouring properties and they were ventilated as high readings of carbon monoxide were found there.

"After some investigation, the fire was found under a flat roof area, which was extinguished shortly afterwards using a hose reel.

"The rescued person was treated at the scene by the ambulance service before being conveyed to hospital by the ambulance service.

"Other occupants of the neighbouring properties were treated at the scene by the ambulance service.

"In this instance working smoke alarms and a vigilant neighbour allowed the fire service to be alerted to this fire and rescue the occupant.

"Please always ensure that you have smoke alarms in your home and that you check them regularly."
