St Mary's Maternity Unit in Poole to close in April
A special farewell event's being planned for families to say goodbye
After more than 60 years of service and 250,000 babies, St Mary's Maternity Unit in Poole is set to close.
Services are being moved to a new building on the site of Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
A special event is being held on Saturday 5th April, where local families will be able to visit for a final time and say goodbye to staff.
The doors are being thrown open between 10.00am and 1.00pm that day, with no need to book a slot.
The day's also a chance for people to find out more about the new provisions and how services will be affected by the move.
Kerry Taylor, University Hospitals Dorset’s Head of Midwifery and Neonatal Services, said:
“We are so excited to be moving to the BEACH building but acknowledge that many local families and staff from the past and present will be sad to see the doors to St Marys Maternity Unit close for a final time.
We are delighted to give people the opportunity to come and reminisce and share the memories they have from their time in the building, before joining us to say a fond farewell to St Marys.”
