Road closure and temporary traffic lights for Southbourne gas works
SGN is carrying out works for the next six weeks
Gas works in Southbourne means there'll be road closures and temporary traffic lights for the next six weeks.
SGN is working on Southbourne Overcliff Drive and Clifton Road from today (Tuesday 28th May) until July 8th.
They're replacing a gas governor - which regulates the pressure of gas going into the mains, and can be turned up or down depending on the needs of residents and demands on the network.
The kiosk it's housed in also need replacing, due to its age.
Traffic impacts
There'll be temporary two-way traffic lights in place on Clifton Road for the duration of the work.
That's so engineers can access governor connection points, located in the road on Southbourne Overcliff Drive, safely.
There'll also be a temporary closure of Clifton Road at its junction with Southbourne Overcliff Drive, with access will be via a signed diversion route.
The footpath entrance for the Gordons zig-zag footpath will also be shut, with a short signed diversion.
SGN have said in a statement:
"We have planned this work with the local highways team so that the governor is replaced before the winter months when pressures and demand for gas will increase, and to avoid the school holidays and summer season.
"Local gas supplies will not be interrupted because of these works.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience we may cause and thank the local community for your patience and understanding."
