Solar panels have been fitted to three of Weymouth Town Council's buildings.

The authority's hoping they'll help to cut carbon emissions as well as bringing down energy bills.

They've been added to the Beach Office, Lodmoor's public toilets and those at the Swannery.

54 panels in total have been installed, by Wessex EcoEnergy - who have also set up an app for the Town Council to monitor their efficiency.

In the first three months, the panels at the Swannery have produced 780 Kwh of electricity, saved 150.3kg of CO2, which is equivalent to planting nine trees.

Cllr David Harris, spokesperson on the climate emergency, said:

“After completing installation of solar PV panels on the Swannery toilets three months ago, and despite the inclement winter weather, they have proved to be a great success.

“It’s generated 780 Kwh of electricity and saved 150.3kg CO2, compared to grid electricity. So far, which has saved £312 of the energy costs in its first few months. We look forward to seeing how much more can be saved next season once the days start getting longer!"

The panels are aimed at helping Weymouth Town Council towards their net zero target by 2030 as well.
