Snow has fallen in north Dorset overnight.

Last night was the coldest of the year so far with temperatures in Scotland dropping to -15.

Snow has predominantly fallen in Gillingham, but avoided Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.

In North Dorset, two schools, St Andrews CE VA Primary School and Shaftesbury C of E Primary School have closed for the day.

Meanwhile, residents across the county have been sharing photographs of what they’ve woken up:

Heavy snow seen in Shaftesbury. The snow has settled in the woods to create this picturesque scene...

Even the dog is loving the snow...

The scene is quite different in Verwood though as only light snow drops...

As snow continues to fall in some remote areas, the Met Office warned drivers across Dorset to watch out for ice.

Alex Deakin from the Met Office said: “It's tricky travelling conditions across the south. There is a potential for further snow across southern counties during Wednesday evening causing potential disruption.”

The South West’s army of gritters also released a statement advising drivers to not undertake a gritters they say accidents have and could happen if this is the case.

Julian Strong from National Highways said: “I know it's not particularly pleasant driving past gritters when they're out doing their work, but we ask people to be tolerant to those situations. They're there to do a job and they're there to keep us all safe.”
